This 2000 International Class A custom "Skoolie" is simplybeautiful and ready to go today!

The owner had this bus professionally built and started with asolid school bus unit.

He documented the entire process and will share that with the nextowner!

The owner custom built this Skoolie for off-grid year-round use andis more of a house than an RV! The floor, walls, and roof are allfoam insulated to R-19 (far more than any factory-built unit), andthe wood stove makes it usable in cold weather and year-round!

The owner used to take it to the ski hill and walk in their sockfeet inside with the outside temps down to single digits!

It has a Navistar DT466E 220 hp, diesel engine with Allison MT643automatic transmission! There is an Excel LP Water Heater JSD-10D,and Hydraulic Brakes (No CDL needed).

It has high ceilings, a blue pine finish, butcher block counters, afull-size shower, and a wood stove! It is all steel + aluminumsides and roof, fiberglass hood. No accidents!

The solar array consists of 5 silevo triex R-Series 220W PV Panels,Midnight Classic 150 charge controller, and Samlex-power Pure SineWave Inverter 1000W and 600 AH of North-star NSB190FT AGMBatteries.

- The bus has a half bath with shower only.

Overview:
The build had a focus on simplicity and comfort while making use ofa number of locally sourced materials. It is setup to be totallyoff-grid with large size solar system, water storage and grey tank.It is set up to sleep 5 - a queen-sized memory foam mattress in theback, a folding couch that turns in to full-sized bed and bunk bedthat is perfect for toddlers to young children. It features afull-sized shower powered by a tankless propane water heater, butcher block counters that provide a nice kitchen space as well asan area that can double as a standup desk or project center. Copperaccented shelves and curtain rods. The wood stove keeps the wholespace warm and toasty. Lots of built in storage, great naturallight as well as LED lights. The pine ceiling and walls provide awarm rustic feel with lots of color.

Mechanical:
2000 International 3800 Bus
DT466e- legendary motor build by Navistar. Inline 6 cylinder turbodiesel. They have made these motors for 50 years and the parts areeasy to get. They can also be rebuilt in-frame!
with MT643 Allison Automatic Transmission- Allison made 2transmissions for this motor, this is the larger of the two.
In early 2020, I had the International dealer in Missoula(Harlow's) pull the original motor and replace it with a motor fromAAA Bus in Phoenix which at the time had 65k original on it. (Havepaperwork) I also have replaced the fan hub motor and assembly, alternator and some of the sensors in the last year to get thismotor running amazingly!
All 4 rear tires were just replaced this summer and the steer tireshave plenty of tread left- see photos. The 2 batteries werereplaced in late 2019 with NAPA Heavy Duty Commercial units, theyare hooked up to a 4A trickle-charger that is wired into the frontbumper- see photo an there is also a built-in kill switch. It justhad a fresh oil change 10/1/21. This bus needs absolutely nothingmechanical done to it.

Build:
The bus was gutted and renovated as follows... Stripped to metal onfloor, walls and roof. Floor was coated with 2 coats of industrialepoxy paint and framed with 2x4s (see photo) and 3/4" plywood andinsulated with 3 1/2" of foam board, glued and caulked at the seamsand edges. Roof was raised using custom made galvanized hatchannel, stainless fasteners and welded. (see photos) The new skinis aluminum (think Airstream) and was professionally done using 3mpanel bond adhesive and rivets. Interior was firred out with 2x4sand epoxy coated fasteners and then insulated with 3" of spray foamon the walls and roof, giving an insulation value of R-19. Alloriginal wiring for traffic signals and exterior lights areworking. Windows are rv style and work great. All of the plumbingis professionally done including drain and PEX supply lines. A 5kwDarwf Wood Stove is installed in a beautiful brick and metalhearth. Custom school locker coat closet, and amazing local bluepine ceiling and walls. We use a Yeti cooler for food storage butthe solar system was designed for a frig/freezer that could easilybe installed. Bus is wired both AC and 12DC with plugs on both. Weleft the bathroom design open but have a brand new Seperettecomposting insert with urine diverter that is included. Customwelded hitch receiver rated at 10,000 lbs, currently houses a 4bike rack (included).
